A child age 14 lived in a children's home and it was agreed that he was being deprived of his liberty as opposed to his liberty merely being restricted - when he was well behaved, he could leave the home from time to time for specified periods but overall, he was the subject of continuous supervision and control to a degree which amounted to a deprivation of his liberty. The court granted the local authority permission to invoke the inherent jurisdiction and authorised the child's deprivation of liberty for 3 months.
