Application for the P to have fitted an intrauterine contraceptive device at the same time as she undergoes a caesarean section. The application was granted. The P is a 25 year old woman who has been diagnosed with moderate learning disabilities and who was 38 weeks pregnant at the time of the application. The P came to the United Kingdom when she was 13 years old, having previously been raised by relatives in Nigeria and was adopted here. While visiting Nigeria the P became pregnant. This was an application to fit the P with an IUD to avoid pregnancy in the future.
The court granted the application, which was opposed by the P's adoptive mother. The court was satisfied that the P remains at an appreciable risk of unplanned pregnancy. Read the full text of the judgment on Bailii Comments are closed.
